There shall be no smoking in all areas of the leisure centre f. In order to facilitate the smooth running of the league and to ensure that all matches are completed on time, all players are asked to arrive at least 10 minutes before the start of the fixture and to ‘sign in’ prior to the commencement of their game to the official on the sports hall balcony. g. All teams shall provide their own kit, wear the appropriate safety equipment, including the wearing of pads of wicket keepers and batsmen. The match ball, sight screens, wicket, stumps and bails, playing area, scoreboard and umpires coats shall be provided by the centre. h. Each team shall supply their own umpire for each game, (and this can be a signed in player) who must enforce the appropriate rules as applicable, with fair play and impartiality in mind at all times during the course of the game in which he officiates. i. The management Team shall have full power to expel from the League any team that continually fails to arrive to fulfil fixtures or disrupts the programme. Any match results played up to that time will be deducted from team scores. j. Teams are to adhere to the dates and times of matches contained in the official fixture list. Fixtures will remain as programmed and will NOT be changed for any team under any circumstances. All teams are therefore asked for their full commitment to playing all scheduled games, so as to complete the League programme. League Rules 1. Teams shall consist of 6 players per game. No team may start with only 4 players but starting with 5 is acceptable. 2. Teams may register a maximum of 14 players for the duration of the League. Playing a 15th player will result in a team penalty given at the discretion of the league management. 3. No player may register or play for more than one team in the league. 4. Each match on Sunday shall consist of one innings per team. 5. Each innings shall consist of a maximum of 10 six-ball overs. The team who bowls first should complete their 10 overs within a time period of 30 minutes. 6. No bowler mat bowl more than two overs in any one innings. (in the case of a bowler becoming incapacitated, the over shall be completed by a bowler who has not bowled two overs, even if he has bowled the preceding one). 7. Either umpire, at their own discretion, may call no ball for short pitched or persistently negative deliveries. The wicket shall be marked at the appropriate point (white lines) to make it easier for umpires to distinguish short-pitched deliveries. 8. Either umpire, at their discretion, may also call a no-ball for ant full-pitched delivery which is at waist height or above. No extra delivery shall be bowled unless the no ball has been bowled in the 10th over of the innings. 9. Two batsmen shall be at the wicket at all times during an innings. (In the event of a team losing 5 wickets within the permitted 10 overs, the last man in shall continue batting with the fifth man out, he remaining at the wicket as a runner only). 10. When a batsmen reaches a personal total of 30 runs he shall retire. (He may return to the crease in the event of his side being dismissed within the permitted 10 overs.) Retired batsmen must return in order of their retirement and take the place of the retiring or dismissed batsmen. Therefore tow ‘live’ batsmen shall be at the wicket until such time as the fifth wicket has fallen. 11. Teams shall change inning with a minimum of delay so as to maintain programme and fixture times, particularly important for any games that follow. 12. There will be an official on the control desk on the sports hall balcony to oversee scores and fixture times etc. and to see that rules and regulations are adhered to, and where players should register before the start of play each week. This official may also overrule on any uncertain call made by an umpire or to clarify any uncertain or unforeseen incidents during a game but always at their discretion. League Scoring Where all other cricket rules remain the same, the following scoring system shall apply: General 1. A ball struck to hit the boundary wall behind the bowler without touching the floor or any other wall or ceiling, shall count as 6 runs provided it has hit the boundary wall directly. 2. A ball struck to hit the boundary wall behind the bowler while touching the floor but not any other wall or ceiling, shall count as 4 runs. 3. A ball struck to hit the bench in the corner on court six (where the players stand behind), shall count as 1 run, even if the ball then subsequently hits the boundary wall. 5. A ball struck to hit on or more of the side or back wall in addition to the batsmen completing a run, shall count as 2 runs. 6. If a ball is struck to hit one or more of the side or back walls, and whilst the batsmen are running one is run-out, only 1 run shall be scored. 7. Any ball hitting the bench in the corner of the sports hall, behind which the batting team players should stand, shall count as 1 run. In an overthrow situation, the bench shall also count as 1 additional run as per rule 20. 24. It is the duty of the umpires to shout or signal to the scorer on the sports hall balcony control desk the runs made from each and every delivery. This ensures accurate scoring. 25. Any uncertain decisions regarding all other unforeseen or any uncertainties during a game shall be made at the discretion of the umpire and/or the official on the control desk, but at all times with fairness of the game in mind. Methods of dismissal Apart from the normal methods of dismissal contained in the laws of Cricket, the following variations shall also apply: 1. The last not-out batsman shall be given out if the non-striker running with him is run out. 2. A batsman can be caught out by a ball coming off the playing area of a wall except where a 6 is scored against the boundary wall behind the bowler, provide the ball has not touched the floor. 3. A batsman can also be caught out by a ball coming off the ceiling, ceiling rafters or any protruding fixture, (but this excludes all netting), provided the ball has not touched the floor. 4. No runs shall be scored if a batsman is out, being caught off the walls or ceiling. But Note: 5. The batsman or the non-striker shall be given not-out if the ball rebounds from a wall or ceiling and hits a wicket without being touched by a fieldsman. 6. Any other dismissals deemed to be ‘unfair’ and which are not covered by any rules above, then the umpire and/or table official shall rule as appropriate in all other matter but always in fairness to both teams and player concerned. League Results 1. The team scoring the most number of runs in its innings shall be the winner. 2. If both teams score the same number of runs within its’ allotted number of overs, then the game shall be deemed a tie, regardless of the wickets lost. 3. In the event of a tie for championship issues, there will be a ply-off between the two teams concerned, at a mutually convenient date and time. An average score will be used throughout the season where total runs scored will be divided by total wickets lost. 4. Points scored in the League shall be as follows: Win = 3 points, Tie = 1 point, Loss = 0 points. 5. In the event where no game is played due to one team failing to arrive to fulfil a fixture, the following scoring system shall apply: 5a. teams who arrive to play the fixture – win 3 points plus the addition of 75 runs scored with no wickets lost 5b. teams who fail to show – loose 2 points and deduct another 4 wickets lost. Additional points to note: 1. All teams and cricketers should register at the control desk on the sports hall balcony, well in advance of their first game, since they need to complete two registration forms. This will greatly assist in league administration. 2. A reminder that on EACH match day, ALL players need to sign and register their team for the day at the control desk ON THE SPORTS HALL BALCONY. Failure to do so will result in delaying the start of your game and other games that follow. 3. IMPORTANT, the St. Ivo Centre adopts a ‘PAY BEFORE PLAY’ policy. Before the start of play, teams should pay their match fee due on each Sunday of the league AT RECEPTION. You will then be given a match ‘ticket’, which MUST BE TAKEN TO THE CONTROL DESK before start of play. 4. This ‘ticket’ will indicate to the Cricket League Co-ordinator that the team has paid their match fee and the game can then commence (this is important since the sports hall is on a tight time schedule to finish all games within our time period). Failure to do so will delay the start of your game and other games that follow. 5. The centre also adopts a ‘NO SMOKING POLICY’ in all areas of the centre 6. Trophies will be presented to winner and runner-up teams upon completion of the League, and are usually made on the final Sunday. Player have to play a minimum of 6 games to be awarded an individual trophy in the event of their team becoming winners or runners-up. Your co-operation in all matters above will be appreciated and make the smooth running and efficient administration of the league possible. |
