Coaching Points

Step 1

Fielder approaches play in a balanced and aggressive manner taking short strides.
As the ball is played, the fielder is perfectly balanced, in alow coruched position, weight on the balls of the feet, with the head still and eyes level.
Experience may allow a certain amount of anticipation.

Step 2

Fielder assesses line of ball and moves at speed onto a line slightly to the non-throwing side of the ball.
The leading hip and non-throwing shoulder turns slightly towards the ball to facilitate correct position and pick up.

Step 3

Watch the ball.
Position throwing foot on the path of the ball, keep body low (bend knees).
Pick up with both hands in front of throwing foot.
Non-thwoing foot slightly trailing.

Step 4

Target sighting take palce as trailing leg comes through to establish a strong sideways on position.

Step 5

Throw completed with a full follow through.
