Fielder approaches play in a balanced and aggressive manner taking short strides.
As the ball is played, the fielder is perfectly balanced, in alow coruched position, weight on
the balls of the feet, with the head still and eyes level. Experience may allow a certain
amount of anticipation.

Fielder assesses line of ball and moves at speed onto a line slightly to the non-throwing
side of the ball. Body begins to move into low position and ready to receive ball.
The leading hip and non-throwing shoulder turns slightly towards the ball to facilitate
correct position at pick up.

Long barrier established at 90 degrees to path of the ball. Kneel on non-throwing knee,
with throwing foot at 90 degrees to path to the ball. Ball is picked up and under the eyes.
The head is positioned in front of instep of the throwing foot. Fingers pointing down,
hands together.

Select target. Drive body up, keeping foot in place and establish throwing position. |
