Time For Change
In response to the England and Wales Cricket Board’s changes to club cricket, Longstanton C.C and Grasshoppers C.C,
two successful clubs, decided to amalgamate in 1999 to form a 'Super Club'.
The club now invites players (of all standards) to join us for the forthcoming season.
The 1st XI play in CCA Senior League Division 1, the 2nd XI play in CCA Junior League Division 3 and our colts play in the CYCA Colts leagues.
The club’s success is based on:
* Focused practise and coaching sessions.
* A county standard wicket.
* Good practice facilities (including practise nets, non-turf pitch, bowling machine etc).
* Development of ambitious young cricketers.
* A comprehensive Youth section (including girls).
* Outstanding club and social facilities.
* Sponsorship backing from market leading companies.
* A supportive team environment.
Location
Longstanton Grasshopper’s home is in the village of Longstanton, which is based roughly 6 miles outside Cambridge.
The cricket ground is situated by the Sports and Social club which offers superb facilities for all its members.
Being part of the Sports and Social club, there are other sporting facilities available to members such as,
tennis, football, bowls and snooker. The club house is modern and includes 2 fully equipped bars and a conservatory
looking out over the ground.
Youth Cricket Development
Longstanton Grasshoppers C.C. has a structure that supports colts cricket at each age group. The opportunity to play
cricket was offered to all the primary and secondary schools within the local area.
Much of this youth cricket expansion has been down to local sponsorship and government grants enabling us to actively
provide equipment and facilities for coaching local youngsters.
To help with the development of the youth teams many senior players in the club have taken coaching awards and volunteered
to help coaching of the young players and the club now has one of the best coaching structures in Cambridgeshire.
We see the development of home grown talent as a priority task in not only being able to reach the top but to stay there.
Our youth development doesn’t end there, as we are quick to spot talent or ambition in a youngster and make sure they have
opportunity and support they require to make the most of their ability whether this be extra coaching, promotion to the
senior teams or even referral to the county squads.
As a result of this former players Ben Ingrey and Mark Pettini are now well on their way to playing first class county
cricket and our former 1st XI captain, Robert Pryor, our youngest ever, has represented the full Cambridgeshire
Minor Counties side at only 20 years old.
County Colts
The club proudly boasts many county colts players. They represent Cambridgeshire at various age groups up to full county
level. With the development of the local youth we hope to provide the springboard for many more young cricketers
to break into the county set-up in the future.
Ambitions
Every club needs ambitions and targets to aim for and Longstanton Grasshoppers is no different. With the structure
we have we are looking to achieve promotion into the Cambridgshire Tucker Leagues.
Our youth set-up is also very important and we are keen to maintain our sizeable membership, and to provide the
support to any ambitious youngster whether playing cricket for the first time or trying to break into the county set-up.
