Constitution & Rules

1. The name of the Club shall be the Longstanton Grasshoppers Cricket Club. The General Committee may amend the name of
the Club for specific purposes provided that all parts of the name are included in the amended form. 2. The Club shall include in its emblem a golden hind, a grasshopper and a rampant dragon and the Club colours shall be scarlet, green and gold. 3. The objectives of the Club are: a) To organise teams for county, regional and local leagues and competitions; b) To encourage the playing of cricket by adults and children throughout the community and at schools within the area of the Club; and c) To assist all members to achieve the best level of play available to them. 4. The Club shall affiliate to those external organisations to which it is appropriate to affiliate. 5. Membership of the Club shall consist of: a) Honorary Life Members, who may be elected at the Annual General Meeting in recognition of outstanding service to the Club; b) Ordinary Members, elected by the General Committee; and c) Vice Presidents, who may be elected at the Annual General Meeting. 6. Every candidate for ordinary membership shall be proposed and seconded by members of the Club and all proposals for membership shall be made in writing and shall be signed by the proposer and seconder and by the candidate. 7. The annual subscription of members shall be such sums as shall be resolved by the Annual General Meeting of the Club. 8. All members of the Club shall be required to be members of Longstanton Sports and Social Club. 9. In the case of elected candidates for ordinary membership, the elected candidate shall pay the first annual subscription within one month of being notified by the Secretary of the Club of his or her election, and in default of payment within such time, the General Committee in its discretion may declare the election null and void. 10. Subject to Rule 9, annual subscriptions of ordinary members shall be due on the 31st May in each year, and shall be paid to the Treasurer. 11. If a member shall be in arrears with payment of the annual subscription then the Secretary shall send him or her notice with a request for payment and, if the subscription is not paid within one month of the date of sending of the notice, the General Committee in its discretion may remove his or her name from the Register of Members. In this event he or she shall thereupon cease to be a member of the Club and shall forfeit all rights to membership, provided that the General Committee may at any time in its discretion restore him or her to membership upon receipt of all arrears of subscriptions then due. 12. The Treasurer shall keep a register of all members and the Secretary shall notify the Treasurer of all memberships approved by the General Committee and of all resignations received. 13. The right to vote at any General Meeting shall be confined to members who are qualified under Rule 5. 14. The Annual General Meeting of the Club shall be held not later than 30th November in each calendar year. One month's notice in writing shall be provided to all members regarding the AGM. The business of such meetings shall be the election of Officers, the General Committee and the Auditor, the receipt of reports and the passing of accounts, a statement of which, certified by the signature of the Auditor, shall be submitted to the members, the annual subscription and match fees for members, and any other business of which written notice shall have been given to the Secretary not later than 30th September. 15. The General Committee may at any time convene an Extraordinary General Meeting for any specific purpose. The General Committee shall, on written request of any ten members of the Club stating the business for which it is required, convene an Extraordinary General Meeting. 16. Such General Meetings shall be held at such times and places as the General Committee may determine but it shall not be competent for any such meeting to alter or to interfere with any decision or action taken by the General Committee in pursuance of the powers herein conferred on the General Committee. 17. The Secretary shall, at least 10 days before any General Meeting, send to every member at his or her address in the Club Register a notice of such meeting, stating the time and place where it will be held and the business that will be brought before it. No business other than business of a formal nature shall be brought forward at any General Meeting unless notice thereof shall have been duly given in accordance with Rule 15. 18. The quorum at all General Meetings shall be 15 Members. 19. The Officers of the Club shall consist of a President, Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Fixtures Secretary, Captains and Vice Captains and such Officers shall be Members of the Club and shall be ex-officio members of the General Committee and, subject to Rule 23 herein, shall be elected at the Annual General Meeting. 20. The management of the Club shall be in the hands of the General Committee, which shall consist of a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 8 Members elected at each Annual General Meeting together with the Officers of the Club. The General Committee shall have the right to co-opt additional Members to serve on the General Committee. 21. The quorum at any meeting of the General Committee shall be 6 members. 22. The General Committee shall appoint a Selection Committee and such other committees as they shall deem necessary and who shall all be responsible to the General Committee. 23. The General Committee shall have power to elect any Officer of the Club whose office has become vacant through resignation or otherwise. 24. The General Committee shall meet whenever the Chairman, the Secretary or the Treasurer shall request or upon written request of 4 members of the General Committee. 25. The General Committee shall have the power to expel any Member who has offended against the Rules of the Club or whose conduct is, in the exclusive opinion of the General Committee, contrary to the welfare or good conduct of the Club. Before the General Committee exercises its power to expel a Member, the Member concerned shall be given at least 14 days notice of the proposed expulsion and the reason therefor. The Member concerned may choose to appear before and be heard by the General Committee. The Member concerned shall also have the right to appear before a board of three persons nominated by the President of the Club which shall have the power to overturn the decision of the General Committee if it is so minded. Any Member who is expelled shall thereupon cease to be a Member of the Club and shall forfeit all rights to membership. 26. The General Committee shall, in addition to the powers specifically conferred herein, have the control of the finances of the Club, power to engage, control and dismiss any person engaged by or on behalf of the Club and all such administrative powers as may be necessary for the proper running of the Club in accordance with these Rules. 27. No Rule of the Club shall be repealed or altered, and no new Rules shall be made, except by a two-thirds majority of the Members present at a General Meeting. 28. A copy of the up-to-date Constitution & Rules of the Club shall be sent to each new Member with the notice of his or her election, and amendments shall be notified to all Members as soon as possible after the General Meeting at which the amendment is approved. All Members shall be deemed to know the contents of these Rules. 29. In the event of the Club disbanding, an AGM or EGM shall be held under the procedures outlined above. On a vote of not less than 75% of those present and entitled to vote, the Club may be disbanded. In such an event, once all outstanding liabilities have been met, all assets of the Club shall be donated in equal shares to the Cambridgeshire Cricket Board and the Huntingdonshire Cricket Board. 30. Any dispute concerning the construction or application of these Rules shall be determined by the General Committee, whose decision shall be final. |
